Which is a better marketing strategy? MEGA Event

I have a couple of hypothetical questions for you…

I want you to imagine that you are graduating from school this June (along with the millions of others across the planet) and later throwing a graduation party.

Who would be on that list: close family and friends?  Or would you place a Facebook ad targeting people in your school district?

Now suppose you were to send invitations out to both the people you know AND to the people you targeted on Facebook…which group would be more likely to bring you a gift?

Close family and friends on both accounts, right?

That only makes sense. You already know and like them. Plus they know and like you.

Although business owners often don’t think of it this way, your customers are similar to your “friends and family.” That’s why when it comes to deciding where you should invest your marketing dollars, your customers should be a priority. Much like your own friends and family, your customers are more likely to respond to your invitation versus someone you are targeting with an ad.

Now let me ask you another question…

Which do you think is a better marketing strategy: Send a monthly mailing to your customers or do a Google AdWords campaign?

Send a monthly mailing, right?

Many business owners balk at the ‘expense’ of mailing a newsletter or offer to their existing customers, but won’t think twice about spending equal or more on a campaign targeting completely new people.

But the truth is, while you do want to do campaigns to attract new customers, a monthly newsletter or mailing can be much more profitable to you. Here are just a few reasons why:

  • They are already familiar with you, your product or service so they are more likely to respond.
  • They’ve purchased from you before, so your odds of them purchasing from you again are greater.
  • Customers have a proven track record of being a good match for you.
  • Customers are a better source of referrals.
